WAIT

2019-09-09 Posted by Don Writing

Most of us, whether we think we do or not live to work rather than work to live. We spend our lives earning a paycheck and saving for the next big something in our lives. You know what I mean, a super vacation, a party, a wedding, and if we are lucky planning for that retirement where we do what we want.

So we wait. Part of life review and life coaching is taking the wait out of your decisions. We go to the job and work and don’t take a holiday because work needs us. We don’t take a vacation because we don’t have enough time or the job wants us for that particular project (Really). Sick time is something is part of our contract, but we think we should not take the time. The hidden belief is that we are too important and that if we take the time we will, not might lose our job.

Other factors impinge on our willingness to do those things that enrich our living. We are new on the job. Being the low person in the workplace means you are dispensable. Co-workers are willing to work more hours, making you look less productive.

Perhaps you have set a goal. You want to work until you have a million or wait for social security until 70. Maybe that high-end car. Or more.

Maybe we buy into that old saying: All things come to one who waits. When we review where we are at any moment, not just waiting but actively evaluating and living those decisions, not only are we more likely to be satisfied with our goals, but with our ability to reach and celebrate those milestones.

A friend had exciting plans for the rest of their lives. Learning some new skills, traveling the world, gardening, but in a few years, when they had more time.

But, they have no more time.

About Don

In various places throughout this blog, I describe me. But even then, I am more than that and often times less. I am a wanderer. Exploring gives me joy. I cook, and that is the reason for the entries that appear as both recipes and restaurant reviews. Knowledge and the ability to take that knowledge and build wisdom and insight makes me want to hop, skip and shout. I counsel, as a pastor, a spiritual director, and as the fool that is willing to live in dialogue. It is that foolishness informs this blog, my musing about faith, religion, and, life.
